In 1980 Michael formed Michael Austin Restoration which specialized in the historical quality restoration of classic bungalow style homes in the Seattle area.

After moving to Dallas in 1985 he added new construction and visual merchandising to his portfolio. Past clients include: Neiman Marcus, Hart Schaffner Marx, Marshall Fields, Gabberts Furniture, David Weekly Homes, Hampton Homes, Coventry Homes and Pierce Homes.

In 2014 while consulting for the remodeling industry Michael realized a great demand for affordable quality cabinets that are readily available. This need resulted in establishment of The Cabinet Firm in 2015.
